Testimonials for Our Work Through The Accounting for Charities Trust.

Playhouse Childcare.

I would like to thank Mark at Accounting for Charities Trust for his assistance in helping transfer our MYOB system from a cash accounting system to an accrual accounting system.

Mark has shown remarkable patience in teaching me how accrual accounting works. From my basic experience in not being able to read our balance sheets and do journals to now my understanding in these is fantastic.

He has shown me how to put invoices into MYOB and then how to put payments against these, how to receipt money and journal assets to our fixed asset register.

Our finances are now accurate and I am very confident in talking about our finances (profit and loss reports and balance sheets) to the committee each month.  We can now see exactly where we are sitting financially. I would recommend Mark and Accounting for Charities Trust to any organisation.

Running a community organisation often means doing everything yourself. Some things come naturally and others don’t. Mark at Accounting for Charities has been a huge asset to us. He helped us convert all our accounts into Xero which has been intuitive and easy for a non-accountant to learn.

Mark has been a patient teacher and guide as I’ve learned to run the system. There’s been a steep learning curve but ultimately we’ll be able to run our accounts easily and we will have increased and retained the knowledge in our organisation.

I know lots about community social work and supporting teenagers who are deemed at risk and their families. I love working with my clients and engaging with them in supporting them to overcome their challenges.  I also know lots about theories and models of community social work and how I want to practice, which lead me to fulfilling a dream of establishing my own social work organisation; Jtd Solutions ltd.

However I know very little about business, or setting up an organisation and compliance and legislation and all those important things that I am not so into. I just want to be out there helping people.
Fortunately for me I discovered Mark Vallance.  Mark does enjoy business and accountancy and he very much enjoys helping setup and support people and organisations who help people.  Without Mark Jtd Solutions would never have got off the ground and I wouldn’t be living my dream.

Mark set up our company structure, told me what I needed to do in order to become a registered charitable organisation, put financial systems in place for our organisation and looks after our books and compliance requirements for the IRD and Charities Commission.

In general Mark takes care of all the stuff I find less interesting and know little about, which allows me to get on with my real job of helping people.  In reality Mark is our business super-person. He is our accountant, business mentor and friend.

If are you are looking at setting up a charitable organisation, or are a current charitable organisation looking for a business mentor and accountant then Mark is your man.  He can be your super business person as well and allow you to get on with doing the important charitable work you are passionate about without having to worry about all that business stuff.

If you are reading this and have not done so, I suggest that you contact Mark and have a chat, you won’t regret it.

We would like to thank Accounting for Charities Trust for the amazing work they did with our Board of Trustees on facilitating the governance self evaluation exercise.

Our Board have a fuller picture of what now needs to be attended to, so that we ensure we achieve better governance performance.

We are pleased to be able to recommend the work of the Accounting for Charities Trust carried out by Mentor/trainer Mark Vallance. I met Mark at a training day/workshop organised by the Upper Hutt Council and found him excellent with the material presented relevant and helpful.

I then contacted Mark to discuss the issues we were having with our financial accounting at Alzheimers Wellington and as a result we contracted him to install a new package Xero and train us in its use. This has been an outstanding success.

We find the package easy to use and Mark’s instructions helpful. He has an excellent manner and our administrator, who was not fully confident with financial packages, loves the new programme and speaks highly of Mark’s patience and skills as a trainer.

I would like to think that more not for profit organisations could benefit from the work of the Trust. Mark’s fees are very low for voluntary organisations and the package Xero is also cheap to run and very easy to use. By funding the Trust you are really helping the not for profit sector in general. It is so important that the sector gets its finances right and is able to afford to contract someone of Mark’s ability.

Our Board of Trustees would like you to pass on to MSD how privileged we feel having been given the funding for ISO Mentoring, and the opportunity to work with Accounting for Charities Trust and your Auckland based mentor/trainer, Simon Barnes.

Simon epitomises the professionalism of your organisation – he has extensive business and Not-for-Profit experience and has strong Christian values.  Simon was very thorough in all that he did and he has spent considerable time talking to, interviewing, and meeting with various departments and the Board.
We could not recommend Simon highly enough.

It has been a delight working with him and his willingness to pass on his expertise. He has gone above and beyond what we expected, and we have already implemented most of his recommendations.
We would like to thank you, and have appreciated the opportunity to work with your organisation.

We cannot thank Mark Vallance at Accounting for Charities Trust enough for his expertise, wonderful service, and endless patience during the Xero training process – which has made our changeover to Xero so painless!

We know that Mark is always only a phone call away if we need help, and his back-up service is second to none. Many thanks to you Mark for looking after us so very well – we are now very happy new Xero users and Accounting for Charities Trust customers!

Auckland Council.

It has been a pleasure to work with Mark Vallance and Accounting for Charities Trust for the last 3 years.
The Trust has provided support and training to community organisations in the Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board area which included organisational ‘health checks’ and also, capacity workshops around financial management and governance.

I would recommend the Trust and its services.
